On Thursday, January 12, CHRA is encouraging all of its members and supporters to send one or more tweets to your Member of Parliament (or several MPs!) indicating your support for a National Housing Strategy that puts the interests of vulnerable populations first. 

It’s that time of year to renew your membership in CHRA for 2017! Membership renewal emails were sent last week, and we encourage you to renew early!

On November 22, the Minister of Families, Children, and Social Development, Jean-Yves Duclos, will participate in a facebook live presentation at 11am EST to unveil the federal government’s “What We Heard” report summarizing the findings of the National Housing Strategy consultation process launched in June 2016.

On behalf of our Board members and the CHRA staff, we would like to wish a wonderful National Housing Day to all Canadians, as we support national action on affordable housing! We have stories from our members to share with you, from all across Canada.

Social housing – public, non-profit, and co-operative – was once a part of Canada’s urban success story. Today there is new attention to affordable housing issues, and renewed optimism about federal policy.

The Canadian Society of Association Executives (CSAE) today awarded its highest award, the “Award of Excellence”, to the Canadian Housing and Renewal Association for CHRA’s 2015/16 “Housing for All” campaign. CHRA is only one of 4 associations in Canada to receive the  “Award of Excellence” honour. 

In the lead-up to National Housing Day 2016, CHRA is planning a member engagement campaign aimed at increasing awareness of affordable housing issues to federal decision-makers, the media, general public and national like-minded organizations.

On October 11th, CHRA Executive Director Jeff Morrison had the opportunity to record an interview with the President and CEO of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, Evan Siddall. The conversation touched on a number of questions – many of which were suggested by CHRA members in the lead-up to the recording of the interview.

The federal government announced a public consultation on a National Housing Strategy. Since that time, CHRA has worked with its members, its Aboriginal Caucus, and other national housing stakeholders to produce a vision and response to guide the developpement of this Strategy.

These informative sessions showcase housing experts, leaders and decision-makers as they profile leading research and projects, promising practices and connect both CHRA members and non-members with discussions on the most relevant housing and homelessness issues and solutions.
