Through an array of different programs and services, the Canadian Housing and Renewal Association serves the community housing and homelessness sector so that every Canadian can have a safe and adequate place to call home.

WHO WE ARE

The Canadian Housing and Renewal Association (CHRA) is the national voice for the full range of non profit, social and affordable housing issues and solutions across Canada. Our mission is to ensure all Canadians have an affordable, secure and decent place to call home. We support a sustainable housing profession and work to connect the broader sector, as well as our members, who collectively house and serve hundreds of thousands of people living in or seeking affordable housing.

WHO WE SERVE

Our members collectively house and shelter hundreds of thousands of Canadians, and provide housing support to many more. Our members and stakeholders are diverse and include housing providers, municipalities, businesses, all 13 provincial and territorial housing departments, service and support agencies, individuals, students and other housing-related associations and networks.

We provide a home for the housing sector and for all who believe that every Canadian should have a decent, adequate and affordable place to call home.

CHRA-Indigenous Caucus-Colour-final

Advocating for Urban Rural and Northern Indigenous Housing

Established in 2013, The Indigenous Housing Caucus gathers CHRA members who Indigenous-led and Indigenous-serving organizations and who want to better housing for northern, rural, and urban First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples.

Last fall, the CHRA Indigenous Caucus Working Group launched it's For Indigenous By Indigenous campaign to call on the federal government to create an urban rural and norther Indigenous housing strategy.

The Housing Professionals Mentorship Program (HPMP) connects experienced housing professionals with those who are looking for mentorship to strengthen the community housing and homelessness sector.

Education, Professional standards and Accreditation for Affordable and Social Housing

As of May 1, 2021, the Canadian Housing and Renewal Association (CHRA) has entered into a partnership agreement whereby it has become the new national coordinator for the Chartered Institute of Housing Canada (CIH Canada). CIH Canada is the destination for education, professional standards and accreditation in Canada’s affordable and social housing sector.

The National Congress on Housing and Homelessness 

Congress gathers professionals from across the Canadian community housing sector for three days of learning, networking and engagement. The 2021 National Congress is expected to take place in Quebec City, from April 26 to 28.
