On February 18, CHRA Executive Director Jeff Morrison appeared before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance to present CHRA’s pre-budget recommendations. Due to the tight timeframe for consultations this year, only a small group of organizations were invited to participate. CHRA is delighted to have been chosen as one of those groups providing budgetary recommendations.
CHRA received a significant number of questions, particularly regarding whether social housing providers had “shovel worthy” projects on the books – indicating a keen interest for housing and homelessness issues.
After the hearings, the Finance Committee then compiles its recommendations, which are seriously considered by the Finance Minister when drawing up the federal budget. On Monday, it was announced that the budget will be tabled March 22.
