An Urban, Rural and Northern Indigenous Housing Strategy
The Canadian Housing and Renewal Association's Indigenous Caucus has presented a proposal to the federal government to create a strategy that addresses the Indigenous housing crisis in urban, rural and northern communities. This strategy should be developed "For Indigenous, By Indigenous". Although the National Housing Strategy (NHS) has made strides in addressing the housing needs of Canadians across the country, it does not adequately address the unique issues that Indigenous peoples face across the country in urban, rural and northern settings. CHRA’s Indigenous Caucus has called on the federal government to properly develop, fund and implement a “For Indigenous, By Indigenous” urban, rural and northern housing strategy in the 2020 Federal Budget.
The Indigenous Caucus issued a press release and opinion editorial to support these demands. Read the full press release, and the Op-Ed below.
