Dr. Prentiss Dantzler, Associate Professor, Founding Director of the Housing Justice Lab, University of Toronto

Sponsored by Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services

French translation will be available

Dr. Prentiss A. Dantzler is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Founding Director of the Housing Justice Lab within the School of Cities at the University of Toronto. As an interdisciplinary community-engaged scholar, his research focuses on housing policy, neighborhood change, race and ethnic relations, and community development. Prentiss received his Ph.D. in Public Affairs with a concentration in Community Development from Rutgers University-Camden. He also holds an M.P.A. from West Chester University and a B.S. from Penn State University.

Dantzler’s work has been published in various academic journals and popular media outlets and sponsored by several funding agencies. He is also the Founder of The Urban Agenda LLC, a consulting group that focuses on capacity building, technical assistance and policy advocacy across North American cities.

Given these experiences, Dantzler's keynote will focus on the changing ethos of homeownership and how our collective ideas to own have (re)produced racialized uneven development. The keynote will also highlight how disadvantaged communities have imagined alternative urban futures through reparative justice models.
