Tarah Akiwenzie is a proud member of the Chippewas of Nawash First Nation in Ontario. Her background is within Indigenous homelessness and housing and she has spent many years on the front lines as a case manager in the City of Toronto. Tarah was fortunate enough to have the time away from these duties to be a part of the CHRA team and its initiatives this summer as Indigenous Caucus Coordinator. Tarah is a part-time student studying at the School of Policy Studies at Queen’s University in the Master of Public Administration program. She is a mother to two amazing children who keep her busy and bring much joy and purpose to her life. Tarah enjoys learning and looking for ways that unique Indigenous perspectives, teachings, and traditions can be incorporated into practice and the good work she does for Indigenous peoples.
